Veteran batter brendan taylor made history by overtaking legendary Andy Flower to record the most One Day International runs for a Zimbabwe player. The milestone was reached during a tri-nation series fixture featuring Bangladesh and Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.
During the encounter, the 40-year-old player anchored the innings with a score of 81 from 101 deliveries, hitting 10 boundaries at a strike rate of 80.20. His performance helped rescue the team alongside Craig Ervine after an early collapse left the side struggling at 24/3.
Milestone Reached in Abu Dhabi
Having debuted in the format in 2004, brendan taylor has accumulated 6,837 runs across 211 matches and 209 innings. His career statistics include an average of 35.24, a strike rate of 76.55, 11 centuries, and 40 fifties, with a personal best score of 145 not out.
With this latest achievement, he surpassed Andy Flower's long-standing total of 6,786 runs, which was compiled across 213 matches and 208 innings at an average of 35.34, featuring four centuries and 55 fifties.
Return to International Cricket
The veteran player reversed his international retirement last year and has since featured for Zimbabwe across all formats. In the ODIs played since his comeback, he has contributed 153 runs in six innings at an average of 25.5, including one half-century. Across all formats since returning to the national setup, Taylor has accumulated 535 runs in 23 matches.
In the recent match against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe chose to bat first after winning the toss. Solid contributions from the senior batters guided the team to a total of 271/8 in their allotted 50 overs, despite strong bowling spells from Bangladesh competitors Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam.
