DMK Passes Resolutions Against Election Commission

Amid ongoing opposition protests in Delhi, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president and former chief minister M. K. Stalin convened a key party meeting in Chennai. During the gathering held at the 'Anna Arivalayam' headquarters, the party adopted multiple resolutions challenging current electoral procedures.

The primary focal point of the meeting centered on sweeping changes to the poll panel administration. Party leaders formally demanded that chief election commissioner ज्ञानेश कुमार be removed from his position. Furthermore, the meeting called for the complete cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and advocated for returning to traditional ballot paper voting instead of using electronic voting machines.

Petitions to the President and Political Stances

To address ongoing electoral irregularities, the regional party decided to submit a formal petition to the President of India. Leaders also expressed support for student organization demonstrations and criticized what they termed contradictory approaches by other political groups.

During the discussions, party leaders touched upon delimitation topics. Sources indicated that if the central government convenes a special session for the Delimitation Bill, the party will evaluate the draft before deciding its final stance. Party representatives noted that if the upcoming legislation proposes increasing parliamentary seats uniformly across all states by 50 percent rather than purely relying on population metrics, their members of parliament might consider supporting it.

Concerns Over Voter List Revisions

Senior party figures reiterated their firm opposition to the voter list procedures, claiming that previous revisions removed numerous names and bypassed local concerns. While the election commission has rolled out special summary revisions across several regions with scheduled draft publications and claim windows, regional opposition groups remain watchful of potential discrepancies.

Additionally, party leadership voiced strong opinions regarding recent preventive detentions in the capital, urging authorities to release detained activists and cease actions against peaceful demonstrations.
