Managing Your iCloud Photos on Apple TV
Apple recently announced that iPhone and iPad owners can now select specific icloud photos to display on their living room screens without exposing their complete libraries. This update introduces more privacy and personalization options for users wanting custom visual displays.
The new controls arrive alongside an updated screen saver shuffle feature and specific setup guidelines for tvOS software. Setup takes place entirely on an authorized iPhone or iPad device.
System Requirements
To use these customized photo features, specific hardware and software conditions must be met:
- Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later)
- Compatible iPhone or iPad devices
- Latest operating system software running on the devices
- Photos synced through the default profile on Apple TV 4K
Controlling Your Library Syncing
To keep the bulk of a personal library off the television, users can restrict the initial synchronization process. When first opening the Photos app on the Apple TV 4K, viewers are prompted to sync either the entire library or exclusively Shared Albums.
To modify this later:
- Navigate to Settings on the Apple TV 4K.
- Select Profiles and Accounts, choose the default profile, and click Photos.
- Toggle iCloud Photos on or off, confirming the action on another Apple device.
Setting Up Memories, Slideshows, and Portraits
Users can select from multiple screen saver styles under current selections, including Memories & Slideshows or Portraits. For memories and slideshows, settings can be adjusted to display either All Memories or specific Favorites, alongside personal or shared albums.
For Portraits, the system displays highlights of people, pets, nature, or cities with a clock overlay. Users can configure whether to display specific categories or restrict people to those marked as Favorites.
Screen Saver Shuffle and Manual Controls
The newly announced shuffle capability automatically rotates between various photo categories. Additionally, viewers can manually switch categories while a screen saver runs by swiping up or pressing up on the clickpad of the Apple TV remote to pick an alternative category.
