Casting Announcement for Mister Miracle
Josh Hutcherson and mackenzie davis are officially joining the cast of the upcoming animated series "Mister Miracle" on HBO Max. DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran revealed the casting details during an interview, confirming the actors will bring the iconic comic book figures to life.
Roles and Creative Team
In the new adaptation, Hutcherson takes on the role of the escape artist Scott Free, also known as Mister Miracle. Meanwhile, mackenzie davis stars as Big Barda, a fellow New God and warrior. The eight-episode animated project is entirely written and run by Tom King, who adapted his own acclaimed comic work independently.
Comic Background and Legacy
The characters were originally introduced by Jack Kirby in 1971. Scott Free is the son of Highfather from New Genesis, who was traded to the ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid, to secure peace. After escaping his upbringing, Scott falls in love with Big Barda, a former member of Darkseid's Female Furies. Tom King's 2017 award-winning 12-issue limited series further explored the couple as they balanced everyday challenges, parenthood, and past demons.
Future DCU Plans
While DC Studios has not officially commented beyond the initial interview revelation, questions remain regarding future live-action appearances. Co-CEO James Gunn has previously expressed a general intent for primary casting choices to bridge animated and live-action mediums. Observers have also noted that the height difference between Davis and Hutcherson matches the dynamic seen in the source material, where Big Barda towers over Scott Free.
