Mercedes-AMG Reveals In-House High-Performance Electric SUV

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Introduction

The 2028 Mercedes-AMG GT SUV marks a significant milestone as the first utility vehicle developed entirely in-house by AMG. Utilizing the AMG.EA high-performance platform, the new electric vehicle line aims to compete in the high-end performance market.

Details regarding final retail pricing have not yet been announced by the manufacturer. The lineup consists of multiple variations including the GT53, GT55, and the top-tier GT63.

Powertrain and Performance Specs

The range-topping GT63 houses an aggressive 1153-horsepower three-motor powertrain, enabling the luxury model to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in a claimed 2.4 seconds. Meanwhile, the mid-level GT55 produces a combined 805 peak horsepower and 1372 pound-feet of torque through its axial-flux motor configuration.

In contrast, the entry-level GT53 model is equipped with traditional radial-flux permanent-magnet synchronous motors. This alternative setup generates 536 peak horsepower alongside 590 pound-feet of torque, while allowing the variant to shed nearly 400 pounds compared to its heavier siblings.

Battery Capacity and Range

To support the high-output configurations, the GT55 and GT63 variants integrate an 800-volt battery pack featuring 22 modules. This design expands usable capacity to 128 kWh—a 22 percent increase over similar sedan architectures.

Engineers have also implemented an upgraded AMG Active Ride Control Plus suspension system to manage active roll, pitch stabilization, and body movement during cornering and braking maneuvers.
