Defensive Resilience Powers Denver Past Seattle
The Denver Broncos secured a hard-fought 17-14 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in an overtime thriller at Empower Field at Mile High. Despite an offensive unit that struggled to sustain drives throughout the night, the Denver defense stood tall against a relentless workload.
The broncos seahawks showdown pushed the home team's record to 4-2 on the season. Head coach Sean Payton praised his defensive group for stepping up during a short week, noting that their sustained pressure and crucial turnovers made all the difference.
Struggling Offense Relies on Defensive Stopper Performance
Throughout regulation, the Denver offense found it difficult to generate momentum after jumping out to an early 14-3 lead via two long scoring drives. Quarterback Bo Nix finished with 107 passing yards as the unit failed to produce any plays longer than 16 yards and punted seven times across nine consecutive possessions.
With the offense managing just 168 total yards, the defensive unit was forced to weather a staggering 82 snaps. Linebackers and secondary players repeatedly pressured Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, registering five sacks, 17 quarterback hits, and three total takeaways.
Overtime Interception Sets Up Decisive Kick
As fatigue set in during the fourth quarter, Seattle managed 11 points to force the extra period. The Seahawks received the ball to open overtime and drove deep into Denver territory.
However, defensive back Ja'Quan McMillian intercepted a pass intended for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed on a third-and-7 play from the Broncos' 28-yard line. Just four plays later, kicker Wil Lutz converted a 53-yard field goal with 4 minutes and 53 seconds remaining on the clock to seal the 17-14 win.
