Unveiling the Cancelled Assassin's Creed Destiny Project
Newly surfaced screenshots and gameplay footage have provided an unexpected look at a previously unknown and cancelled project titled assassin's creed destiny. Developer portfolios have revealed early material from the title, which was being developed for current platforms before being scrapped.
Setting and Gameplay Details
Working under the working title assassin's creed destiny, the game was designed to take place in ancient China during the Qin Dynasty. While another mobile-exclusive title named Assassin's Creed Jade is set in 215 BCE, this cancelled project was set slightly later in 206 BCE.
The leaked material primarily stems from a February 2025 prototype and showcases a mission featuring a female assassin trying to reach a mysterious artifact inside a sacred palace. The palace is depicted as being besieged by the historical figure Xiang Yu and his troops, accompanied by early work on a boss fight involving the Chinese warlord. Other visible gameplay elements include traditional stealth kills, the iconic leap of faith, parkour mechanics, and a placeholder test environment featuring a spinning umbrella-like weapon.
Development Background and Cancellations
The project was led by TiMi Studio Group, a Tencent subsidiary that also collaborated on Jade. However, development ended early following a studio restructuring that split TiMi into four distinct teams. The cancellation also aligned with a broader strategy shift at Tencent, which reportedly began moving away from Western franchises with lower profit margins to focus on domestic releases and casual party games.
While titles like Jade faced staff reallocations but remained in development, Destiny was permanently scrapped alongside other projects such as a Greek mythology action game called Athena and a cyberpunk open-world game titled Invictus.
