Charlyn Corral Wins Gerd Muller Trophy as Top Scorer at Ballon d'Or

Mexican forward charlyn corral made history at the Ballon d'Or gala by collecting the Gerd Muller Trophy as the female top scorer of the year. The ceremony, which took place in London, honored the Pachuca Femenil player alongside men's category top scorer Harry Kane.

Because the honor is awarded based strictly on the highest number of goals scored throughout the football year rather than nominations and voting, her record-breaking performance of 49 goals across 49 matches secured the accolade. She shared the spotlight during an event that also featured Balon de Oro 2026 Gala: Winners, Rankings and Latest Updates celebrations across multiple categories.

Historical Achievement for Mexican Football

During her acceptance speech, the striker expressed immense joy over becoming the first Mexican player to earn the recognition. Reflecting on her two-decade career, she emphasized that hard work, discipline, and passion have driven her success. She also expressed gratitude toward Club Pachuca and highlighted fellow nominee Scarlett Camberos.

This marks only the second time the accolade has been presented in the women's division, following Ewa Pajor's win in 2025 with 48 goals.

Domestic Success and International Recognition

The forward has built an impressive career record, boasting multiple scoring titles in the Liga Femenil and an unprecedented four consecutive scoring titles. She also broke her own regular-season scoring record with 22 goals in 17 matchweeks.

Additionally, the International Federation of Football History & Statistics recognized her earlier in the year as the world's leading goalscorer with 57 goals, marking her second consecutive year leading global tallies.
