Cyclone Arnab Threatens Andhra Coast as IMD Tracks Severe Storm
The India Meteorological Department reports that a deep depression has intensified into cyclone arnab over the Bay of Bengal, heading toward the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Deep Depression Intensifies Into Cyclone Arnab
A deep depression over the eastcentral and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has officially intensified into cyclone arnab, according to the latest updates from meteorological authorities. Moving in a westward direction at a speed of approximately 15 kmph, the weather system has prompted heightened vigilance across coastal regions in eastern India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the system was positioned over the westcentral Bay of Bengal. Officials anticipate that the disturbance will continue moving in a west-northwestward path, strengthening into a severe cyclonic storm and eventually upgrading to a very severe cyclonic storm.
Path and Landfall Projections
According to current forecasts from the India Meteorological Department, arnab cyclone update advisories indicate that the system is on course to strike the coastline of Andhra Pradesh. The landfall is projected to occur by October 28 between the towns of Bapatla and Visakhapatnam.
Forecasters warn that the storm could pack maximum sustained wind speeds ranging from 115 to 125 kmph, with potential gusts reaching up to 140 kmph. Regional authorities have been alerted as the trajectory points toward a severe impact on coastal districts.
Government Preparedness and Precautions
In response to the approaching weather threat, administrations in vulnerable areas have mobilized personnel and equipment. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has deputed multiple ministers to oversee preparedness protocols across vulnerable zones in neighbouring regions. Meanwhile, authorities have restricted maritime activities, banning fishing in the sea and halting tourist entries in select districts.
State leadership in Andhra Pradesh, including Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has instructed local officials to maintain round-the-clock vigilance to mitigate potential damages and protect local populations. Concurrently, heavy rains continue to affect parts of Tamil Nadu due to an active northeast monsoon, with additional showers expected in the coming days.
Regional Weather Monitoring
Meteorologists continue to track the storm's progression across the Bay of Bengal. While inland areas across regions like Telangana and coastal zones monitor real-time developments, residents are advised to stay updated via official IMD bulletins and adhere strictly to local safety guidelines as the situation evolves.
