Demarcus Henry Commits to North Carolina as Highest-Ranked Recruit Since 2019
Five-star high school basketball prospect Demarcus Henry has officially committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels, marking a major win for first-year head coach Michael Malone.

Demarcus Henry Chooses North Carolina
Five-star senior basketball prospect Demarcus Henry has announced his decision to play for North Carolina. Rated as the No. 2 senior in high school basketball, his choice provides first-year head coach Michael Malone with a massive statement win just days before his official on-court tenure begins.
Henry is the program's highest-ranked high school recruit since Cole Anthony joined the Tar Heels in 2019. Among all recruits since the inception of the ESPN recruiting database in 2007, only Harrison Barnes in 2010 has held a higher ranking than Henry upon committing to UNC.
Recruiting Journey and Family Background
The standout wing selected North Carolina over final contenders that included Arkansas, Louisville, and Kentucky. While Arkansas was viewed as a leading contender for several weeks, an official visit to Chapel Hill shifted momentum heavily in favor of the Tar Heels. Henry is the son of former NFL wide receiver Chris Henry and the younger brother of Ohio State wide receiver Chris Henry Jr.
During his recruitment, Henry noted the persistence shown by Coach Malone, Chuck Martin, and Sean May. He recalled a particularly surprising moment on his official visit when he received a phone call from Michael Jordan, who expressed hope of seeing him wear a Tar Heel uniform.
Player Profile and Background
Standing 6-foot-7 with a large wingspan, Henry plays as a multidimensional wing who can attack the basket, hit 3-pointers, and guard multiple positions. He attended AZ Compass Prep in Arizona and performed strongly on the Nike EYBL circuit, averaging 19.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 52 percent from the floor. He also won a silver medal representing USA Basketball at the 2026 FIBA U18 Men's AmeriCup.
Henry noted that his roots also played a role in the decision, as he originally lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, until middle school. As Malone's first five-star high school commitment since taking over the program, Henry looks forward to fitting into a system focused on accountability and a winning mindset.
