DGCA Directives on Mobikins MK PB 04 Power Banks
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has prohibited mobikins mk pb 04 power banks on all flights operating to, from, and within India. This regulatory action follows a recent fire incident involving the device, prompting immediate safety measures across the aviation sector.
In an airworthiness information circular dated September 29, 2026, and signed by Director General Vir Vikram Yadav, the regulator instructed airlines and passengers to ensure that the specified equipment is not carried on board aircraft. The restriction applies to both cabin baggage and checked-in baggage, as well as cargo.
Incident Details and Safety Risks
The safety directive comes after a power bank on an IndiGo flight traveling from Chandigarh to Chennai exploded inside an overhead bin. The October 11 incident forced the flight to divert to Hyderabad, where an emergency evacuation was successfully carried out.
The circular was issued for information, guidance, and compliance due to potential safety risks associated with the device. Regulators have advised airlines to take appropriate measures to identify and prevent the carriage of the specified power bank and to communicate the advisory to passengers through suitable channels.
Scope of the Ban and Criticisms
The aviation regulator emphasized that the directive is strictly specific to the MOBIKINS MK-PB-04 model. It does not represent a blanket ban on all power banks generally.
Despite the safety intent, critics have questioned the rationale behind singling out one relatively obscure brand of power bank, arguing that the order's limited scope undermines its utility. Observers also raised questions about how the implementation and enforcement of the order will be ensured across flights.
