Examining the Travis Hunter Deion Sanders Transfer Process and Recruitment
Travis Hunter recently shared insights into how Deion Sanders flipped his commitment away from Florida State by promising dual-threat opportunities.

Understanding the Travis Hunter Deion Sanders Transfer Process
The recruitment journey of star player Travis Hunter remains one of the most memorable stories tied to head coach Deion Sanders. Hunter recently peeled back the curtain on how Sanders convinced him to move away from his initial commitment to Florida State.
As a top national recruit, Hunter originally committed to Florida State in March 2020. However, he ultimately changed course and flipped to Jackson State on December 15, 2021, before eventually following Sanders to the Colorado Buffaloes program.
The Conversation That Changed Everything
During a discussion on the Chasing No 1 Show with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, Hunter explained that financial incentives and external perks did not drive his choice. Instead, his main focus centred entirely on his athletic role on the gridiron.
“I didn't care about the money and how could they get me there, what they could do for me when I get there. I wanted to know if I could play both sides of the ball. That's the only question I had for him,” Hunter noted.
When Chase asked what sealed the deal, Hunter shared that Sanders gave him a direct answer: the coach confirmed he allowed players to handle dual responsibilities, though Hunter would have to earn that privilege by potentially mastering one side of the field first.
Current Challenges for the Colorado Buffaloes
While the history of Hunter's recruitment forms a vital chapter in the program's narrative, Coach Prime faces an immediate test as the Buffaloes prepare to host Kansas State at Folsom Field.
Colorado enters Week 9 holding a 2-5 record following five consecutive losses, which includes a 57-24 defeat against Oklahoma State. When questioned about what the team must fix to secure a victory against the Wildcats, Sanders emphasized consistency and preparation, pointing out that penalties have been a recurring issue.
“That's the only thing we're consistent in is getting penalties. And that doesn't make sense to me, but we've got to do better. Got to prepare much better,” Sanders stated during his press conference.
