Former Teacher Laura Caron Pleads Guilty to Child Endangerment Charges
A former South Jersey elementary school teacher has admitted to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child involving sexual conduct with a student.

A former South Jersey educator has admitted guilt to charges connected to a multi-year investigation involving a former student. Laura Caron entered a guilty plea following allegations that investigators began examining after a family member raised concerns publicly.
Guilty Plea and Case Background
The former educator entered her plea to a charge of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child with sexual conduct. Authorities previously charged her after investigators alleged unlawful conduct took place between 2016 and 2020, beginning when the victim was 11 years old. Investigators stated that a child was born in 2019.
The situation came to light after the victim's father shared posts on social media pointing out family resemblances. Law enforcement subsequently arrested the former instructor on multiple counts, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Sentencing and Penalties
Under the terms of the resolution, the defendant faces a five-year term in New Jersey State Prison. In addition to the prison term, the agreement requires the permanent forfeiture of her teaching license and all future public employment opportunities.
Before the final prison term is applied, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office noted that she must complete an evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center. This assessment will establish whether she receives a repetitive or compulsive designation, which could affect her overall sentencing outcome. Following her release from custody, she will be mandated to register under Megan's Law and will remain under lifetime parole supervision.
Next Steps in the Legal Process
The formal sentencing hearing for the case has been officially scheduled to take place on January 8, 2027.
