General Motors Issues Cadillac Blazer Vehicle Safety Recall Over Brakes
General Motors has announced a major safety recall affecting more than 80,000 vehicles, including certain Cadillac and Chevrolet models due to braking concerns.

General Motors Announces Safety Actions
General Motors has issued separate safety notices coordinated through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration affecting more than 80,000 vehicles. The broad action includes multiple models and addresses distinct potential mechanical and software defects across different vehicle lines.
Understanding the Cadillac Blazer Vehicle Safety Recall
The prominent cadillac blazer vehicle safety recall stems from an issue where certain vehicles could momentarily lose their braking functionality. According to regulatory documents, if a driver executes a sharp turn, rolls over a minor bump such as a driveway edge, and taps the brakes at low speeds, the onboard computer can miscalculate wheel rotation. This miscalculation can temporarily stop the brakes from functioning for a brief second. General Motors noted that the issue immediately resolves as soon as the driver depresses the brake pedal a second time.
Data linked to this specific defect indicates involvement in 20 minor crashes and two small injuries. The affected lineup and quantities include:
- 2023–2027 Cadillac Lyriq: 44,585 units
- 2024–2027 Chevrolet Blazer EV: 3,911 units across SS and PPV trim levels
- 2025–2026 Cadillac Celestiq: 82 units
- 2026–2027 Cadillac Vistiq: 18,802 units
The official recall notice tracking number assigned by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is 26V717. General Motors plans to address this software-related concern by providing a complimentary software update to all impacted units.
Additional Van Steering Component Recalls
In a separate campaign assigned safety notice number 26V718, General Motors addressed potential steering defects in specific commercial vans. Investigators found that a nut on the steering components was not tightened properly during manufacturing. Although an earlier inspection attempted to catch the problem, approximately 108 parts were missed.
The vans included in this separate action are the 2025–2026 Chevrolet Express, totaling 8,693 units, and the 2025–2026 GMC Savana, totaling 4,022 units. If the loose nut eventually detaches during operation, drivers could experience a complete loss of steering capability. Owners of these vans can visit a dealership to have the affected part replaced at no charge.
Next Steps for Affected Owners
General Motors is preparing to notify dealerships regarding both recall campaigns. Registered owners of impacted vehicles will receive direct notification via email by December 14, 2026. Consumers seeking immediate information or looking to confirm if their specific automobile is affected can reach out to Cadillac customer service or Chevrolet customer service directly.
