Jane Seymour and Joe Lando met again on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, where they explained how a natural disaster on the set of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman sparked a short‑lived off‑screen romance.

During a moderated panel, the actors described their first impressions of each other. Seymour recalled being struck by Lando’s looks, likening him to a figure from a romance song, while Lando later called their bond “like an old married couple.”
On‑set romance sparked by a flash flood
According to Seymour, a flash flood hit the set early in production. Lando quickly urged her into his pickup truck to escape the rising water. After the danger passed, the pair went for Mexican food and margaritas, spending only a few dollars before realizing they had fallen in love.
Why the relationship ended
Despite the intense connection, Seymour said the couple split soon after. She explained that Lando envisioned a “four‑child white picket fence” with a younger wife, while she already had children and was beyond child‑bearing age, making long‑term plans incompatible.
Current lives of the former co‑stars
Both remain close friends but have moved on personally. Lando has been married to his wife Kristen since 1997. Seymour announced her engagement to emergency‑room physician John Zambetti in June. They also reunited professionally for season 5 of Acorn TV’s mystery series Harry Wild, where Lando played a pathologist.
The actors reflected on the impact of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, which aired on CBS from 1993 to 1998 and spawned sequel TV movies in 1999 and 2001. Their shared experiences on the show continue to shape their friendship today.
