Distressed Couple Protests Allocation Issues in Karimnagar

A local couple staged a sit-in demonstration outside the Karimnagar collector's chamber to protest alleged corruption and unfair practices in the implementation of the ఇందిరమ్మ ఇళ్ల పథకం. The public demonstration highlights growing grassroots frustrations over how housing benefits are being distributed under the government initiative.

Allegations of Bias in Village Committee Selections

Protesters and local applicants have raised serious concerns that the village-level committees handling the housing program are acting arbitrarily. According to complaints, individuals with financial stability and personal land holdings are managing to secure houses, while genuine low-income families are being left out. Critics argue that recommendations, influence, and back-channel lobbying have replaced transparency in the selection rounds.

Ravula Mamata and her husband Ashok, residents of Elabotharam village in Saidapur mandal, shared their plight after participating in the protest. Mamata explained that they had applied for a home under the welfare scheme, and after officials told them their unit was cleared in the initial phase, they demolished their existing shelter. However, their names failed to appear on the official beneficiary rosters, leaving them homeless.

Impact on Genuine Low-Income Families

Having missed out on the initial rollout as well as the recently announced second phase list, the family described being trapped in extreme financial and psychological distress. Mamata noted that she suffers from severe health issues without the means to pay for medical care, and accused local village committee members of responding dismissively when questioned about the discrepancies.

During the sit-in, the applicants urged authorities to dissolve the local village committees, initiate a thorough investigation through special officers, and review the approved lists to take action against ineligible beneficiaries.

Official Response and Next Steps

Administrative officer Sudhakar examined the grievance application submitted during the protest and directed the concerned mandal-level officials to initiate steps toward sanctioning a house for the affected family. Whether broader administrative measures will follow to address widespread complaints across the district remains uncertain.
