Minnesota Holds Off St. Louis in Thrilling Encounter
Matt Boldy delivered an exceptional performance with his fifth career hat trick and a four-point night, powering the Minnesota Wild to a narrow 5-4 victory against the St. Louis Blues. The latest chapter in the blues vs wild rivalry saw Minnesota build a strong lead before withstanding a furious late comeback attempt by their opponents.
Matt Boldy Shines With a Hat Trick
Boldy opened his scoring account with a one-period one-timer, added another goal following a turnover in the second frame, and capped off his hat trick late in the second period by hammering home a no-look backhand pass from Kirill Kaprizov near the left dot to make it 5-2. The milestone makes Boldy the third-fastest active American skater to record five career hat tricks, achieving the feat in 369 games.
Kaprizov contributed heavily to the offense with his league-high ninth goal of the season alongside two assists. Quinn Hughes also made history during the match by recording two assists, securing a franchise record for the longest season-opening point streak at eight games. Additional scoring for Minnesota came from Danila Yurov, while Jesper Wallstedt turned away 21 shots to secure the win.
Late Push Falls Short for the Blues
Despite trailing by multiple goals heading into the final stages, St. Louis mounted a fierce challenge. Robert Thomas found the back of the net with four minutes remaining in regulation, and teammate Dylan Holloway added another score with just 15 seconds left on the clock. Joel Hofer stopped 33 shots for the Blues, who played without forward Pavel Buchnevich as he returned home for the birth of his child.
Upcoming Schedule
Looking ahead, the St. Louis Blues will travel to face Nashville on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild will return home to host Columbus on Sunday.
