Pelicans vs Grizzlies: New Orleans Hands Memphis First Loss in Overtime Thriller
The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 135-134 in overtime on Monday night, snapping their six-game winning streak to open the season.

Pelicans vs Grizzlies: A Dramatic Overtime Finish
The New Orleans Pelicans secured a narrow 135-134 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies in an intense Monday night matchup. Zion Williamson powered the offensive effort with 25 points—including nine during the overtime period—while Jeremiah Fears sank two crucial free throws with just 7.3 seconds remaining to seal the outcome.
This thrilling contest marked the first defeat of the season for Memphis, halting their six-game winning streak. Prior to this setback, the Grizzlies had matched the best franchise opening streak in their history by starting 6-0. Meanwhile, the outcome extended the Pelicans' current winning streak to three games.
Standout Performances in the Memphis Grizzlies Game
Ty Jerome delivered a remarkable 40-point performance for Memphis, nearly carrying his squad across the finish line. Jerome single-handedly forced the extra period by scoring nine consecutive points in the final 1:43 of regulation, locking the score at 124-124. Additional scoring support came from Cameron Boozer with 18 points and Jaylen Wells with 16.
On the opposing side, Karlo Matkovic matched Williamson with a career-high 25 points for New Orleans, and Derik Queen contributed 20 points.
How New Orleans Maintained Control
Early on, the New Orleans defense created significant difficulties for Memphis. Although the home team struggled from beyond the arc initially, six turnovers and strong scoring from Queen kept the visitors ahead. Memphis typically outscored opponents by an average of eight points in the second half, but they could not shake the resilient Pelicans squad. New Orleans held a 100-95 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, representing only the second instance this season that Memphis faced a deficit after three quarters.
The visiting side achieved this victory despite playing without starting guard Dejounte Murray, who sat out his third consecutive contest for personal reasons. Fellow starter Yves Missi and reserve Jordan Poole were also unavailable due to injuries.
Post-Game Tensions and Upcoming Schedules
Emotions ran high immediately following the final buzzer, as players from both squads engaged in a shouting match at midcourt and required separation while still exchanging heated words.
Looking ahead to their next fixtures, the Pelicans are scheduled to host the Jazz on Wednesday night, while the Grizzlies will host the Pacers on the same evening.
