Overview of Financial Performance at पंजाब नैशनल बैंक

State-owned lender पंजाब नैशनल बैंक has posted strong financial results, recording a quarterly net profit exceeding ₹5,500 crore for the second quarter. This marks an approximate 13 percent rise in net profit compared to the previous period, helping offset a drop in treasury income.

During a virtual briefing discussing the quarterly figures, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ashok Chandra noted that operating profit growth was impacted by lower treasury income. While treasury profit stood at ₹1,769 crore during the same period in the previous financial year, it fell to ₹753 crore in the recent quarter.

Special Recurring Deposit Campaign Amid Market Volatility

To address ongoing fluctuations and bearish sentiment in the stock market, the institution is preparing a dedicated campaign to popularise its recurring deposit scheme. Leadership highlighted that this period offers an ideal opportunity to pitch a product that ensures safe, assured returns for all depositors and customers.

To prepare for upcoming Expected Credit Loss guidelines set to take effect on April 1, the institution added a floating provision of ₹125 crore, bringing its total floating provisions to ₹2,560 crore. Furthermore, the bank anticipates full-year credit growth to reach 13 to 14 percent, surpassing its original 12 to 13 percent guidance.

Overseas Fund Raising Plans

Regarding capital expansion through international investors, leadership confirmed plans to mobilise $1 billion via a Medium-Term Note Programme. Executives stated they are monitoring market conditions to identify the most opportune time to execute the fundraising effort.
