Sabres vs Maple Leafs Overtime Thriller
Owen Power scored the decisive goal in overtime to cap off an incredible comeback as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4. The thrilling matchup saw Buffalo wipe out a two-goal deficit in the third period to secure the victory.
The action-packed contest featured standout performances on both sides, though the visiting Sabres ultimately capitalized on Toronto's late-game struggles to take the win.
Jack Quinn and Buffalo's Offensive Surge
Jack Quinn played a vital role for the Sabres throughout the night, netting a pair of goals and later assisting on the game-winner. Quinn opened the scoring in the first period following a turnover by Toronto defenseman Nick Blankenburg. Despite trailing early, Buffalo kept pushing.
As the game entered the final frame, Dennis Gilbert and Mattias Samuelsson each found the back of the net to tie the score at 4-4. Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen turned away 26 shots to keep his team within striking distance.
Kirill Marchenko Hat Trick and Maple Leafs Performance
For Toronto, Kirill Marchenko delivered a stellar performance by recording the fifth hat trick of his career during his 300th NHL game. Marchenko notched his third goal late in the second period to give the Maple Leafs a 4-4 advantage at the time. Auston Matthews also added a goal for the hosts, and Sergei Bobrovsky finished with 29 saves.
However, the Maple Leafs suffered a major blow in the third period when former captain John Tavares left the ice early after colliding with Buffalo forward Josh Norris, appearing to favor his left leg. With Tavares unavailable to anchor the second line, Toronto struggled to maintain their lead.
Overtime Decision
In the extra session, Power sealed the comeback victory for Buffalo by taking a feed from Quinn at center ice and firing past Bobrovsky at 3:14 of overtime.
Looking ahead, the Sabres prepared to travel for a matchup against the Montreal Canadiens, while the Maple Leafs set their sights on hosting the New York Islanders.
