Frankie Moscatiello, a pitcher and entertainer known on the savannah bananas baseball team, is heading home to Long Island this weekend. He is scheduled to make an appearance at Oyster Bay's annual Oyster Fest held at Theodore Roosevelt Park.
The Journey to the Savannah Bananas Baseball Team
Before finding success with the entertainment-focused squad, Moscatiello spent eight years playing professional baseball overseas and in independent leagues. His career included playing for St. Thomas Aquinas College and a stint with the Long Island Ducks. Facing poor financial conditions in independent ball as he turned 30, he initially planned to hang up his cleats and transition to an ordinary job.
However, a friend suggested a unique alternative. Moscatiello flew to Dallas to try out for the organization, where evaluators judged his dancing skills just as much as his athletic talents on the diamond. He successfully made the cut, securing a much more fruitful salary and entering what he calls the best job in the world.
Embracing the Persona
Each member of the roster adopts a distinct character. Moscatiello fully embraced his identity as a stereotypical New York local, leaning heavily into his background. Fans across the Northeast quickly resonated with his paisan persona, often recognizing him by his signature Italian flag headband during games.
Fans eager to catch a glimpse of the local star can see him this weekend at the Oyster Fest, where he will be wearing his trademark headband that has become central to his character recognition among supporters.
