Stock Market Schedule: Timing and Details for Diwali Muhurat Trading

Understanding the Special Festive Session

Dalal Street is set to implement a modified calendar over the festive weekend, featuring a special Sunday trading session for investors. During this time, participants will take part in muhurat trading to mark the beginning of the Hindu financial year, Samvat 2083, through customary festival trades.

While celebrations span across Dhanteras, Naraka Chaturdashi, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj, regular trading hours will not apply during this specific one-hour window. Markets will remain open normally on Dhanteras, November 6, and stay closed for the regular weekend break on Saturday, November 7, before resuming operations for the Sunday event.

Schedule and Timings

The special event will kick off with a pre-open period at 2:05 pm, during which participants can place both limit and market orders until 2:10 pm. From 2:10 pm to 2:15 pm, the exchanges will accept only limit orders.

Order matching and confirmation will occur between 2:15 pm and 2:17 pm, followed by a buffer period from 2:17 pm to 2:20 pm. Continuous trading will then run from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm, with closing-auction processes scheduled during the latter portion of the window.

Commodity Market and Future Holidays

Alongside equities, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also host a special session on Sunday, November 8, 2026, with exact timings to be announced later. Commodity trading will continue normally during Dhanteras and pause on Saturday as usual.

Following the weekend events, the equity segment will observe a closure on Tuesday, November 10, for Diwali-Balipratipada, whereas the commodity segment will remain open. MCX will suspend trading during the morning session of November 10 and resume in the evening.

The age-old tradition was initiated by the Bombay Stock Exchange in 1957 and adopted by the National Stock Exchange in 1992, coinciding with Chopda Pujan and Lakshmi Puja.
