Features and Pricing of the New Collection

The newly available home video set presents the complete series in 1080p High Definition alongside both 1.33:1 and 4:3 aspect ratios. Viewers can choose between the original Japanese audio track with English subtitles or the English dubbed version. The package is currently priced at $49.95 for buyers looking to add it to their shelves.

Background and History of the Detective Noir Mecha Classic

Brought to life by creator Hajime Yatate, the show debuted back in 1999 and offered a distinct take on the mecha genre by blending it with detective noir elements. The story is centered on Roger Smith, a professional negotiator operating in Paradigm City—a metropolis where residents lost their memories four decades prior due to an unexplained event. Alongside a young robotic companion named R. Dorothy Wayneright, his butler Norman Burg, and the colossal mecha known as the Big O, Roger takes on diverse contracts while uncovering deep secrets tied to his own existence and the city's past.

While domestic Japanese viewership fell off early on and forced a temporary reduction in episode output, strong overseas reception in North America and widespread critical acclaim eventually paved the way for a second season to complete the narrative arc. Although new animated entries have remained absent since the conclusion of an interquel manga title in 2003, the franchise retains an active following and maintains a 7.5/10 score on the Internet Movie Database derived from over 2,700 user ratings.
