Warriors Secure Win Behind Rookie Standout
The Golden State Warriors triumphed over the Los Angeles Clippers with a 124-112 final score on Sunday night, lifting their seasonal record to 4-3. This outcome marks the first instance the team has held a winning record since March 8th of the previous season.
Despite resting key veterans Steph Curry and Draymond Green on the opening leg of a back-to-back, the team relied heavily on standout performances from its roster. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg delivered a massive offensive performance to carry the squad.
Yaxel Lendeborg Stars in Offensive Outpouring
Both squads started at a rapid pace, and early cold shooting from deep allowed Los Angeles to secure a 37-29 advantage by the end of the opening quarter. However, Yaxel Lendeborg ignited a 14-point surge in the second period, propelling Golden State ahead to a 63-57 halftime advantage.
Lendeborg finished the contest with 37 points, marking the highest total by a Warriors rookie since Steph Curry scored 42 points in his rookie season finale. He shot 13-for-19 from the field, including 6-for-8 from beyond the arc early on, alongside 4 rebounds and 6 assists.
Supporting Cast and Clippers Response
De’Anthony Melton contributed strongly with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block, finishing with a game-high +20 plus/minus rating. Brandin Podziemski added 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Brandon Williams chipped in 17 points off the bench.
For the Clippers, Rui Hachimura scored a team-high 24 points. Although players like Kris Dunn caused defensive trouble with 7 steals, Los Angeles lacked the overall offensive power to match the Warriors. A late 13-0 run by the Clippers' bench cut the deficit to single digits, but late three-pointers from Melton sealed the victory.
Looking Ahead
The Warriors return to the Chase Center to host the Phoenix Suns. Steph Curry and Draymond Green are expected to return to the active lineup for the upcoming matchup.
