Inside the New Elizabeth Holmes Documentary
A24 has released a secretive documentary titled You Can See Everything focusing on Elizabeth Holmes and her partner Billy Evans. Following a surprise premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, the three-hour project offers a deeply unconventional look at the couple prior to Holmes beginning an 11-year prison sentence for her Theranos fraud case.
The Rehearsal Techniques and Celebrity Cast
Drawing stylistic parallels to the rehearsal, the film blurs boundaries by utilizing A-list actors to re-enact private conversations. Nathan Fielder recruited Emmy winner Amanda Seyfried to reprise her role as Holmes alongside Christopher Abbott, who plays Evans. Fans familiar with Fielder's approach will recognize the use of stand-ins and re-enactments, though employing prominent Hollywood talent takes the concept into entirely new territory.
During production, Fielder and fellow director Lance Oppenheim gained extensive access, with Fielder even living with Holmes and Evans 24/7. The resulting feature explores the complicated dynamics between the subjects, mixing documentary footage with dramatized sequences that examine truth, perception, and deception.
Behind the Scenes and Bizarre Moments
The documentary captures numerous odd and unexpected interactions between the subjects and the filmmakers. Early scenes show domestic moments, such as Evans stepping in to take over whisking eggs because he believes Holmes does not prepare them correctly, highlighting underlying control dynamics.
Later portions of the film delve deeper into the complex psychological landscape surrounding the Theranos trial. Holmes maintains that she has never told a lie, leaving viewers to navigate a narrative where it remains unclear whether the convicted fraudster is intentionally misleading or simply detached from reality.
