Standing 7‑foot‑3 with a 7‑foot‑6 wingspan, Mara highlighted defense as his primary focus during media day. While still adjusting to the NBA pace, he expressed hope that his presence would aid offensive fluidity through effective screening and passing.

Before the season, Basket Zaragoza asserted that Mara was still bound by a contract extending to 2027 and sought a transfer fee. The Thunder, however, cited NBA guidance stating that Mara’s three‑year collegiate career eliminated the requirement for an international clearance, confirming his eligibility to play for Oklahoma City.

Season outlook and next steps

The Thunder’s front office views Mara as a complementary piece alongside Chet Holmgren, Jaylin Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein, deepening the frontcourt rotation. Early scouting reports note his ability to deter shots in the paint and create space with physical screens. As the Thunder progress through the 2026‑27 schedule, observers will monitor how Mara’s defensive contributions develop and whether his ankle holds up over a full season.
