Public Hearings Begin for তরলীকৃত পেট্রোলিয়াম গ্যাস

Regulatory discussions have officially opened regarding proposals to revise the pricing structure and operational commissions connected to তরলীকৃত পেট্রোলিয়াম গ্যাস. Stakeholders have gathered to deliberate on multiple submissions aimed at altering current financial margins across the distribution chain.

The proceedings are currently being conducted by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission at the BIAM Foundation auditorium located in Eskaton, Dhaka. Authorities are reviewing various petitions submitted by industry participants who argue that existing commissions require substantial revision.

Proposed Commission Adjustments

During the sessions, sector participants outlined requests to elevate their earnings significantly. Importers have suggested raising existing commissions by two to two-and-a-half times, while distributors have requested a threefold increase. Specific applications show that for a standard 12 kg cylinder, individual firms proposed varying commission figures such as 478 Taka, 349 Taka, 360 Taka, and 300 Taka, moving up from a previous baseline of 191 Taka.

Furthermore, intermediaries and retail vendors have petitioned for higher margins. Distributors asked for their commission to climb from 50 Taka to 150 Taka, whereas local retail sellers requested an increase from 45 Taka to 70 Taka.

Market Structure and Recent Pricing Context

Market operations involve a total of 30 registered importing entities, though only six maintain regular import schedules. Additionally, twelve distinct organizations procure gas from these importers to handle local cylinder bottling operations at their own facilities.

This current scrutiny follows prior adjustments issued by the regulatory body. On a previous date, the commission adjusted rates upward, establishing the price of a 12 kg cylinder at 1,837 Taka alongside proportional revisions for sizes ranging from 5.5 kg up to 45 kg. Autogas rates were also modified during that period, moving to 84.62 Taka per litre.
