Uncovering the Greater Noida pnb Scam

A routine bank visit to update a passbook unravelled a massive financial irregularities case amounting to Rs 10.24 crore at a local branch. Victims, including local farmers who received compensation after selling land for the Jewar airport project, found their savings and fixed deposit accounts completely emptied out.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has launched an official probe after filing a First Information Report based on a complaint lodged by the Sector-Pi branch of the Punjab National Bank.

Modus Operandi and Employee Involvement

According to the bank's authorised representative and branch records submitted to authorities, an office assistant named Deepanshi allegedly misused the login credentials of six different branch officials without their consent or knowledge. System logs and user activity records revealed that unauthorized debit transactions had been carried out over a substantial period spanning three years.

The scheme came to light when a customer, Sangita, visited the branch with her family and spotted three disputed transactions dated September 16. When questioned, the accused staff member initially attempted to deflect suspicion before breaking down and confessing to the branch head.

Investigation and Next Steps

The confession indicated that relevant physical vouchers backing the unauthorized transactions were deliberately destroyed to remove supporting evidence. The diverted funds were funneled directly or routed through multiple co-accused accounts, ultimately landing in the account of Ashutosh Pathak.

Local farmers and residents in Birondi, Greater Noida, now face uncertainty as investigators look into how life savings disappeared. Authorities continue to examine the extent of the conspiracy involving the internal bank staff and external account holders under relevant legal provisions.
