Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks Meet for Late-Night Showdown

Buffalo Sabres Face Anaheim Ducks on the Road

The Buffalo Sabres head into Southern California for a late-night matchup in the ongoing sabres vs ducks series. Fresh off a 2-0 shutout victory against San Jose, the visiting squad looks to maintain momentum halfway through a four-road-trip sequence.

Head coach Lindy Ruff praised the recent defensive discipline, anchored by goaltender Colten Ellis, who secured a 24-save clean sheet while teammates blocked a season-high 20 shots. Despite previous struggles with holding leads and defensive-zone poise, Buffalo aims to build upon that successful outing.

Olen Zellweger Returns to Face Former Team

Thursday's contest marks a significant milestone as defenseman Olen Zellweger plays against the Anaheim Ducks for the first time. Having spent three seasons with Anaheim before a June trade, Zellweger has transitioned smoothly into the Buffalo lineup, contributing three goals and partnering effectively alongside Owen Power.

Meanwhile, the host squad enters the arena seeking redemption. Anaheim is recovering from a frustrating Tuesday performance where they surrendered a 5-2 lead late in regulation before suffering an overtime defeat. Led statistically by Leo Carlsson and young goalscorer Beckett Sennecke, the youthful roster hopes to tighten up defensively after conceding high scoring averages early in the season.

Lineup Adjustments and Roster Notes

Buffalo faces a few roster adjustments as forward Konsta Helenius will miss the remainder of the trip due to an upper-body injury sustained from an open-ice hit. Peyton Krebs steps into the top line position, while Sam Carrick rejoins the fourth line following a four-game absence. Forward Beck Malenstyn continues to provide physical presence and high work rates for the fourth line, leading the team heavily in hits.

For Anaheim, goaltender decisions remain unconfirmed following Lukas Dostal's start in the recent overtime setback, with backup Ville Husso also available to protect the net against the incoming Sabres attack.
