Charles Oliveira Calls on Justin Gaethje for Clarity
Charles Oliveira has publicly urged undisputed UFC lightweight champion justin gaethje to decide whether he plans to defend his newly won belt or walk away from the sport. The champion has recently hinted at retirement while recovering from injuries, leaving the division's top contenders waiting for answers.
Weighing Retirement and Career Accomplishments
Having achieved nearly everything in his professional career, justin gaethje has acknowledged that he does not strictly need to fight again and is content with his accomplishments. With a professional record of 28 wins and five losses across 33 fights, fellow fighter Oliveira noted that he would completely understand if the American decided to retire without a title defense, suggesting fans would give him a hero's farewell.
The Lightweight Title Picture and Financial Reality
Oliveira, who is preparing to face Diego Lopes in the main event of UFC 335 for the BMF title, pointed out that fighters cannot expect future purses to match the financial heights of competing at the White House event, which served as a once-in-a-lifetime payday. While Arman Tsarukyan has also strengthened his claim as a top contender with a knockout win over Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331, Oliveira believes a victory over Lopes will put him at the front of the line for the next championship opportunity regardless of whether justin gaethje returns to the octagon.
