Desert Ridge High School Quarterback Dismissed After Play Call Dispute
A senior quarterback at Desert Ridge High School says his playing career has ended following a dismissal over an audible, which also led to 12 player suspensions.

Play Call Dispute Leads to Team Dismissal
A senior football player at desert ridge high school states that his high school athletic career has concluded following his dismissal from the squad. The decision stemmed from a disagreement over a play call made during the final moments of a game two weeks prior.
Gunner Brewer, who was playing quarterback, explained that he altered the original play at the line of scrimmage to trust his running back, who successfully scored a touchdown to help secure the victory. Brewer noted that changing plays was permitted under the previous offensive coordinator, who left the position at the end of September.
Coach Reaction and Teammate Suspensions
Following the game, head coach Miles Smith requested a conversation with Brewer and stated that altering the play showed disrespect, resulting in the player being cut from the roster. By the following Monday, 12 additional team members informed the coaching staff that they opposed the disciplinary choice.
According to Brewer, those 12 supporting players received suspensions lasting for the remainder of the season. Brewer expressed gratitude for their solidarity, stating that he stands by them completely.
Current Status and School Response
Brewer mentioned that earlier in the season he missed a quarter of a game for arriving late due to car trouble, but he views the dismissal as an extreme measure. He expressed sadness over missing the chance to finish his senior night with the team.
Since the dismissal, Brewer stated that coach Smith has primarily communicated only with his mother. When Brewer attempted to assist at a recent game against Ramon, he was instructed to stay away from the field house and the players. Representatives for desert ridge high school have not immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the ongoing situation.
