Legal Proceedings Advance Following Destructive Crime Spree in Queens
A suspect has been indicted on hate-crime charges following a Queens property destruction and subsequent vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality.

Overview of the Queens Crime Investigation
Legal proceedings are moving forward after a series of events involving property damage and a fatal vehicle collision in a Queens neighborhood. The suspect involved in the incidents has been formally indicted on hate-crime charges related to the destruction of a local business.
The investigation centers on a sequence of events that began in mid-May. Authorities state that a local establishment was targeted twice within a short span, resulting in property damage.
Details of the Vandalism and Crash
According to official statements, the 22-year-old suspect allegedly knocked over plant stands and threw dirt at the wall of a closed kosher bagel shop on two separate nights in May. Days following the second property incident, the suspect was accused of driving a vehicle at high speeds through a residential area, running a red light, and causing a multi-car crash.
The resulting collision impacted pedestrians Michael and Cara Trager as they crossed the street. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Cara Trager ultimately passed away days later from her injuries, while Michael Trager sustained a shoulder injury.
Charges and Legal Status
The Queens district attorney's office brought an indictment against the individual, marking a progression in the legal process. In addition to property destruction charges, the suspect faces allegations involving reckless driving, speeding, running a red light, and leaving the scene of an incident that caused serious physical injury.
Family members of the victims have expressed grief and frustration regarding the scope of the charges and interactions with local officials, while the legal process continues to advance through the court system.
