Plano ISD Commits Funding for dallas stars Arena
The Plano school district has agreed to provide up to $250 million in property taxes over a 25-year period to support a new facility for the dallas stars. Under this arrangement, the local school district would gain permission to host graduation ceremonies and other events at the newly proposed venue.
Financial details show that the quarter-billion dollars will not directly reduce the operating budget of Plano schools. Instead, the amount is balanced by a recapture adjustment. In the current education finance framework, property-rich districts typically return funds to the state so they can be redistributed to poorer districts. Under this arrangement, the designated funds remain local rather than going to the state system.
Arena Project Background and Costs
The proposed $1 billion facility is intended to replace an existing 25-year-old venue utilized by dallas stars owner Tom Gagliardi. While the school district's contribution utilizes state recapture offsets rather than local school operational funds, public financial commitments do not end there.
Local voters in Plano are scheduled to vote next month on a separate ballot measure involving another $700 million in tax money for the arena initiative. If approved, the combined public investment could reach $950 million toward the total $1 billion cost of the project.
