Reliance Jio Platforms Makes Landmark Market Debut
Jio Platforms, the telecoms-to-technology division of the RIL group, recorded a massive market debut on Wednesday. The initial public offering achieved heavy subscription, crossing the threshold within roughly 100 minutes of launch.
Trading data shows the stock opened at Rs 1,358, marking a 21% premium above its initial public offering price of Rs 1,119. Late trading activity, driven largely by foreign funds, pushed the share price higher to close the session at Rs 1,419, up 27%.
Valuation and Market Standing
The strong closing figures brought the company's total market capitalisation to Rs 13.1 lakh crore. This valuation places reliance jio platforms directly behind its parent company, Reliance Industries, which holds an estimated Rs 15.7 lakh crore, and ahead of competitor Bharti Airtel at Rs 12.2 lakh crore.
On a global scale, the listing propelled the firm into the top five telecom services providers worldwide. Furthermore, the combined market capitalisation of the RIL group reached Rs 30.3 lakh crore, elevating it above the Tata group.
Leadership Vision and Future Goals
During the listing ceremony at the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai, company leadership outlined goals for the upcoming decade. Managing Director Akash Ambani stated that the organisation aims to democratise technologies including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, connected devices, and space connectivity to build a unified digital society across India.
Exchange figures indicated that approximately 19.4 crore shares were traded across bourses on the opening day. Notably, exchange data and reports confirmed that promoter RIL along with major tech investors like Google and Meta did not offload any existing shares during the offering.
