A Stunning Moment in Athens
During the second quarter of Saturday's intense auburn vs georgia matchup in Athens, wide receiver Chas Nimrod delivered what many considered the catch of the year. Trailing after a 14-0 deficit in the first quarter, the Tigers worked their way back into contention against the top-ranked Bulldogs, silencing Sanford Stadium with a remarkable scoring sequence.
The Play That Turned the Momentum
Quarterback Byrum Brown lofted a precise fade toward the end zone for Nimrod. Despite tight coverage from Georgia cornerback Demello Jones—who had not allowed a touchdown all season according to Pro Football Focus—Nimrod managed to adjust. He extended his left arm around the defender, utilizing his hand and the back of the defensive back to secure the 9-yard touchdown pass.
That incredible effort tied the game at 14-14. Shortly after, Auburn football momentum continued to build as the Tigers blocked a field goal, converted one of their own, and intercepted Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton to secure a 17-14 advantage heading into halftime.
Background and Season Performance
Both Nimrod and Brown arrived at Auburn this past offseason as part of a group of transfers brought over from South Florida by head coach Alex Golesh. Their prior chemistry from the previous season has clearly translated to their new team.
Last year at USF, Nimrod recorded 23 catches for 466 yards and three touchdowns across just seven games. In his first five games with Auburn, he accumulated 25 receptions, 273 receiving yards, and two scores. He entered Saturday's contest ranked second on the team in receiving yards and tied for the lead in touchdown receptions.
