Supreme Court Suggests Virat Kohli Campaign to Reduce Diwali দূষণ
The Supreme Court has suggested that the central and Delhi governments involve public figures like Virat Kohli to raise awareness and reduce দূষণ during Diwali.

Supreme Court Seeks Star Power to Tackle Festival দূষণ
The Supreme Court has recommended that the central and Delhi governments utilize prominent personalities like Virat Kohli to encourage citizens to celebrate a cracker-free festival and help curb rising environmental দূষণ. During a hearing on air quality concerns in Delhi and surrounding regions, a bench comprising Justice MM Sundresh and Justice PB Varale emphasized the need for widespread public awareness campaigns across television, newspapers, and other media platforms.
The bench pointed out that festivities should be enjoyed without causing distress to others, noting that public health and constitutional rights must be balanced alongside traditional celebrations. The justices observed that while religious freedom is guaranteed under Article 25 of the Constitution, it remains subject to public health and other fundamental rights.
Involving Children and New Generations
To address the ongoing crisis of seasonal দূষণ, the judiciary suggested that education departments should step in to educate children about the hazards of firecrackers. Justices noted that the younger generation adapts more readily to positive behavioral changes and can effectively persuade their parents to skip bursting firecrackers.
According to the bench, children understand that loud fireworks create hardships for vulnerable groups, including infants, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, sick persons, as well as local birds and animals. Actively teaching children offers a practical pathway toward meaningful long-term behavioral shifts.
Government Action and Future Enforcement
While the court acknowledged that complete prohibitions on firecrackers might create further complications at present, it issued a strict caution to local administrations. Authorities have been told to ensure that existing rules regarding fireworks are properly communicated and implemented. If administrative bodies fail to enforce current orders properly, the court indicated it may be forced to adopt a much stricter legal stance.
