Understanding NSE Holidays and Market Closures for Dussehra
Investors face confusion regarding nse holidays and share market closures for Dussehra, as exchanges confirm trading schedules for October.

Investors have experienced uncertainty surrounding upcoming nse holidays and festival schedules as October progresses. With major events approaching, stakeholders are seeking clarity on exact trading dates.
Amid discussions regarding a share market holiday for Dussehra, market participants have questioned whether closures will affect trading on October 19 or October 20. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange have clarified the operational calendar.
Trading Schedule and Closures
Official notifications state that the share market will remain closed on Tuesday, October 20, in observance of Dussehra. Trading will proceed normally on Monday, October 19, but will be suspended across both major exchanges on Tuesday. This shutdown affects multiple segments, including equity, derivatives, SLB, commodities, bonds, and forex.
Because of these scheduled breaks, settlements across equities, debt, and commodities will experience delays. Investors planning transactions during this period are advised to adjust their strategies accordingly.
Impact on Commodity Markets and Banks
While the broader equity markets halt operations, the Multi Commodity Exchange will maintain a partial schedule. The MCX morning session will not operate, but the evening session from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM will remain active for commodities like gold, silver, crude oil, copper, zinc, and lead.
Additionally, banking institutions will observe a holiday on October 20 in accordance with the Reserve Bank of India schedule. Consequently, individuals are encouraged to complete essential banking transactions a day prior on October 19.
