Understanding the Share Market Holiday Schedule and Trading Status
Indian financial exchanges observe a scheduled trading break for Dussehra, marking the second exchange closure of the current month.

Share Market Holiday Observance for Dussehra
The Indian stock market remains closed as the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange observe a trading break for Dussehra. This event marks the second exchange closure of the month, following an earlier suspension on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti.
Stock Market Holidays 2026 Overview
A total of 16 trading breaks have been scheduled for the year. Out of these total allocations, twelve have already passed. Following the current Dussehra closure, trading operations will remain suspended on three additional occasions over the remaining two months of the year.
The timeline for upcoming closures includes a break on Tuesday, November 10, for Diwali-Balipratipada. Subsequent to that observance, trading will pause on November 24 for Guru Nanak Jayanti, followed by Christmas on December 25, which serves as the final scheduled exchange shutdown of the year.
Commodity Exchange Operations
Trading schedules vary across commodity platforms during the share market holiday. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India stays closed during the morning session but reopens for trading in the evening session. Conversely, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited remains completely shut for both trading sessions on the same date.
Weekend Intersections and Special Sessions
Several designated dates for the year fall on weekends, meaning they do not trigger separate mid-week closures. These instances include Mahashivratri and Eid-Ul-Fitr, both of which occurred earlier in the year, alongside Independence Day and Diwali Laxmi Pujan. While Diwali Laxmi Pujan falls on a Sunday, exchanges plan to host a special one-hour Muhurat Trading session, with exact timings to be announced closer to the date.
