First Look at the Upcoming EV
Tata Motors' next-generation testing program has provided an initial look at the electric variant after test models of its internal combustion engine counterpart were previously spotted. Recently, the 2027 tata nexon ev spied testing while being transported on a flatbed truck, offering automotive enthusiasts a clear glimpse into its evolving design and layout.
Because the vehicle was elevated on the truck bed, observers could examine the underbody packaging. This sighting marks the first substantial look at the electric vehicle's structural configuration under development.
Battery Pack and Underbody Details
The most notable feature from this transport sighting is the visible battery enclosure positioned underneath the passenger compartment. Additionally, distinctive orange high-voltage electrical cables can be observed near the front of this enclosure, right behind the front wheel structure. This new body architecture gives the manufacturer an opportunity to refine overall vehicle packaging, charging capabilities, efficiency, and performance.
Design and Exterior Updates
While portions of the prototype remain heavily camouflaged or covered with patterned wraps and fabric, several structural changes are apparent. The vehicle features a flatter roofline, an upright tailgate layout, and a less coupe-like rear profile compared to earlier iterations. These upright proportions may help expand luggage capacity and rear-seat headroom, though the final cabin floor height and layout will ultimately depend on battery placement.
Underneath the wrap, observers can identify the front doors, outside mirrors, prominent wheel arches, and conventional pull-type door handles. Unlike another test vehicle spotted in September that featured Curvv-style alloys, this particular prototype wears five-spoke wheels.
Current Lineup and Future Timeline
While the next-generation Nexon is anticipated to arrive in 2027, development for both the electric and internal combustion engine models is moving forward in parallel. The current generation of the Nexon EV is priced between Rs 12.49 lakh and Rs 17.89 lakh ex-showroom, providing 30 kWh and 45 kWh battery choices. The smaller 30 kWh pack pushes out roughly 127 bhp with a 325 km claimed range, while the 45 kWh variant delivers around 143 bhp with a claimed range of 489 km, with both supporting fast charging.
Before the next-generation Nexon EV hits the market, Tata is slated to introduce other models, including the Safari EV and the Aeris EV. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Safari EV may launch as soon as next month, with the Aeris EV following in early 2027.
