Google Stock Plummets Over 10 Percent After Weak Q3 Earnings Report
Google stock dropped significantly after the parent company posted a top-and-bottom-line miss and a sharp decline in free cash flow.

Understanding the Decline in Google Stock
Google stock suffered a sharp decline of over 10 percent after the corporate parent reported a drop in free cash flow and its first top-and-bottom-line miss in nearly four years. Investors reacted cautiously to the latest financial numbers as broader concerns persist surrounding heavy expenditures in artificial intelligence.
During the third quarter, adjusted earnings per share reached $2.67, falling short of the $3.02 anticipated by analysts polled by LSEG. Total revenue climbed 25 percent from the prior year to $127.58 billion, but this also missed analyst expectations of $128.22 billion.
Alphabet Earnings and Financial Highlights
Net income declined to $26.17 billion, or $2.12 per share, down from $34.98 billion, or $2.87 per share, a year earlier. Meanwhile, negative free cash flow reached $9.07 billion, considerably worse than the $2.70 billion anticipated by Wall Street forecasts. Capital expenditures for the quarter totaled $51.36 billion, while long-term debt experienced a steep rise to $125.1 billion compared to $21.6 billion from the same period last year.
Operating income stood at $40.58 billion, missing the $43.19 billion forecast provided by FactSet. Equity holdings also created volatility, resulting in a loss of $8.66 billion during the third quarter following a major windfall in the previous period.
Cloud Growth and Artificial Intelligence Investments
Despite the broader financial pullback, the cloud division delivered notable growth. Google Cloud revenue more than doubled to reach $30.7 billion, beating analyst estimates of $28.7 billion. Executive leadership noted extraordinary demand across enterprise sectors, financial services, and AI labs.
Consumer adoption metrics showed strong momentum for artificial intelligence products. The Gemini application reached 1 billion users, establishing itself as the fastest-growing product in company history, and management continues to maintain its full-year capital expenditures forecast as annual spending expectations approach higher milestones.
