Government Proposes Ban on Diesel and Petrol வாகனம் in Gavi
The government is moving to restrict conventional vehicles in Gavi to curb pollution, planning dedicated electric transportation options instead.

New Restrictions Proposed for Gavi
The forest department is taking steps to curb environmental pollution by restricting conventional transport options in the region. Authorities are moving forward with a plan to prohibit diesel and petrol வாகனம் from entering Gavi entirely.
While officials noted they do not oppose tourism, they stressed that irresponsible behavior by visitors cannot be tolerated. The goal is to maintain Gavi as one of the finest protected areas in the country.
Alternative Transit and Green Energy Plans
To accommodate visitors under the new environmental rules, authorities plan to set up dedicated electric vehicle transit directly from the checkposts. At present, only a limited number of vehicles, including KFDC tourist transport, travel into Gavi daily.
In addition to electric options, the deployment of CNG vehicles is under consideration, following a model similar to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The forest department has also implemented a strict plastic ban within the forest zone as part of these broader preservation measures.
Discussions Regarding Public Transport
Efforts to green the area extend to public transit services operating within the region. The forest department has formally proposed that KSRTC buses serving the route also transition to electric alternatives.
Initial-phase discussions regarding the KSRTC fleet transition have already concluded with the organization's managing director. Further final talks with the transport minister are scheduled for the coming week to finalize the transition to green energy transport.
