Intel Stock Plunges as Weak Guidance and PC Slowdown Dent Outlook
Intel shares dropped sharply in extended trading after the company released a soft fourth-quarter forecast, highlighting ongoing weakness in the global PC market.

Overview of Intel Stock Movement
Intel shares dropped significantly in extended trading after the chip manufacturer issued a softer-than-expected fourth-quarter forecast. The downward movement for intel stock followed management commentary pointing to continued sluggishness across the personal computer industry.
During the third quarter, the company posted adjusted earnings per share of 52 cents against expectations of 40 cents. Revenue reached $16.51 billion, coming in slightly above the projected $16.5 billion and climbing 21% compared to the same period a year earlier.
Segment Performance and PC Market Slowdown
Despite overall revenue growth, parts of the business faced severe headwinds. Client computing and physical artificial intelligence group revenue dropped 5% year-over-year to $8.1 billion, missing estimates. In contrast, data center and artificial intelligence revenue surged 78% to reach $7.3 billion.
Global personal computer shipments contracted by 4% in the second period compared to the previous year, largely driven by surging costs for memory and other necessary components. Executives noted that this slowdown in personal computer demand is projected to persist through at least the first half of the following year.
Operational Challenges and Financial Forecast
The company's recent forecast also factors in the aftermath of an explosion at a manufacturing facility in Israel. The tragic incident resulted in two worker fatalities and a serious injury, with leadership estimating a $600 million impact on revenue across two quarters. Production at the site is scheduled to resume ramping up by the end of the week.
For the upcoming quarter, management anticipates adjusted earnings per share of 25 cents on revenue ranging between $15 billion and $16 billion. Analysts had previously projected higher figures for both metrics.
Long-Term Outlook and Foundry Developments
Despite near-term challenges impacting personal computing, leadership remains optimistic about long-term demand for computing platforms and central processing units. Industry server central processing unit units are projected to expand by over 30% across both 2026 and 2027.
Meanwhile, the company continues to develop its foundry operations. As a domestic manufacturer of advanced logic chips, the organization has advanced high-volume production of its advanced 18A technology at a facility in Arizona, offering an alternative in the semiconductor manufacturing space.
