Lauderhill Officer Arrested After Allegedly Assuming Dead Man Identity
A Lauderhill police officer was arrested after investigators accused him of moving into a dead man's home and impersonating him for years.

A local law enforcement officer in lauderhill faces multiple felony charges after investigators accused him of moving into a deceased resident's house and impersonating him for years. The case came to light following an investigation by the Broward County Sheriff's Office into property takeover and identity fraud.
Welfare Check Leads to Discovery in Florida
The events began on July 11, 2022, when 35-year-old Brian Louis Sguros responded to a residence in lauderhill, Florida, to perform a welfare check. Inside the property, officers discovered 71-year-old Dennis West dead. Authorities later determined that West had passed away from natural causes.
Alleged Identity Theft and Property Takeover
According to paperwork filed in the case, Sguros admitted to taking possession of the home in August 2022, just weeks after the discovery of the body. Investigators stated that Sguros approached the county medical examiner's office posing as a friend of West, claiming falsely that the deceased man had no living family members.
Authorities detailed that Sguros paid utility bills and taxes on the property using West's name. Furthermore, he is accused of utilizing law enforcement databases to gather information and forging West's signature on a municipal paperwork request in order to obtain a repair permit from the city of lauderhill.
Court Appearance and Administrative Leave
Following his arrest on Tuesday, Sguros appeared in court on Wednesday and was ordered held on a $25,000 bond. The Lauderhill Police Department placed him on administrative leave without pay following the arrest. It remains unconfirmed whether Sguros has retained legal representation as the judicial proceedings continue.
