Naresh Bhatt Testifies He Found Wife Dead and Disposed of Body

Testimony of Naresh Bhatt Shocks the Courtroom

During his ongoing murder trial, defendant naresh bhatt took the stand and delivered unexpected testimony claiming he found his wife, Mamta Kafle, dead from an apparent suicide before disposing of her body. The stark admission represents a complete reversal from his initial statements to law enforcement and media outlets following her disappearance over two years ago in Manassas Park, Virginia.

Details of the Disappearance and Discovery

Bhatt testified that on the night of July 29, 2024, he slept in a room with the couple's baby while checking on the child multiple times. Around 4 a.m. the following morning, he walked into the primary bedroom to use the en suite bathroom and discovered his wife lying on the floor. He stated that she was on her back with vomit nearby that appeared to contain pills, alongside open cases of pesticides.

According to his account, he attempted to revive her for up to an hour before moving her body toward the bathroom to give her water, noting she remained unresponsive and not breathing the entire time. When questioned by his defense attorney about why he failed to call 911, Bhatt expressed panic and fear that he would be blamed for driving her to suicide.

Admission of Dismemberment and Disposal

In subsequent testimony, Bhatt admitted that he placed his daughter with a babysitter, visited Home Depot, and used a saw to dismember and dispose of his wife's body inside the home's trash cans over the next day to day-and-a-half. Prosecutors previously presented surveillance footage showing Bhatt discarding multiple bags into different dumpsters while wearing gloves, though Bhatt maintained those bags contained only her personal belongings rather than her remains, which have never been recovered.

Cross-Examination and Public Reaction

During cross-examination, prosecutor Matthew Sweet confronted Bhatt directly about his changed story, calling him a liar—an assertion Bhatt acknowledged on the record. Meanwhile, friends of Mamta Kafle expressed outrage outside the courtroom, dismissing his testimony as a fabricated story rehearsed over the past two years. The defense also introduced background details regarding Bhatt's upbringing in Nepal and mental health issues he experienced during his military service in the United States.
