Tragedy Strikes a Queens Neighborhood
An active homicide investigation is underway in south richmond hill after a five-year-old girl was discovered unresponsive inside a residential property. Police department officials reported responding to the location late Wednesday evening following an emergency call placed by the child's mother.
When law enforcement units arrived at the scene just before 7 p.m., they located the mother on the ground level of the home. Officers subsequently discovered the young victim in an upstairs bedroom, showing signs of trauma with bleeding from her nose and mouth. Emergency responders transported her to Jamaica Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 7:30 p.m.
Emergency Call and Ongoing Police Investigation
According to authorities, the investigation centers heavily on statements made during the initial contact with emergency dispatchers. Officials stated that the mother made self-incriminating remarks to the 911 operator before police arrived at the residence on 110th Street.
Investigators are currently reviewing the mother's mental health background and interviewing other family members. Police confirmed there is no prior history of emergency responses to the home. The county medical examiner's office will perform an examination to officially establish the exact cause of death.
Family and Community Response
The victim's father later arrived at the medical facility where he received the news of his daughter's passing. While authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault, no formal charges or arrests have been announced, and the inquiry remains ongoing.
