US Tech Stocks Fall and Nasdaq Index Ends October With Sharp Losses
US tech stocks suffered steep losses for a second consecutive day, causing the nasdaq to finish October with its worst monthly slide since March 2025 amid growing concerns over artificial intelligence spending.

US Stock Market Reacts to AI Spending Pressures
United States technology stocks tumbled for a second consecutive session, causing the nasdaq index to wrap up October with its largest monthly slide since March 2025. Wall Street faced a broad sell-off as investors grew increasingly anxious about the hundreds of billions of dollars firms are pouring into artificial intelligence.
Major market benchmarks recorded sharp declines alongside the Amazon Share Price Falls After Disappointing Results and AI Costs report highlights, reflecting broader unease across the Nvidia Share Price and Market Position: Analyst Ratings and Outlook sector. Analysts noted that while technology giants are spending aggressively on infrastructure, their earnings are not always satisfying market expectations, triggering fears of an AI bubble.
Intel and Alphabet Face Heavy Losses
Semiconductor manufacturer Intel saw its shares drop significantly as the company stated it intended to increase spending on artificial intelligence despite a continuing slowdown in personal computer demand. Meanwhile, Google parent company Alphabet continued to face downward pressure on its stock price following an earlier plunge. Alphabet disclosed that new artificial intelligence search summary features were impacting its core search advertising revenue, while its yearly investments are projected to reach up to $205bn.
Growing Pains Across the Tech Sector
Other prominent technology firms also experienced steep pullbacks. Amazon reported higher cash spending driven by data centres, servers, and network equipment. Social media platform Reddit saw its stock fall significantly after reporting lower-than-anticipated daily user figures and warning that AI-driven search tools from competitors were reducing referral traffic.
Market analysts suggested that investors have grown much stricter regarding third-quarter earnings results. While market values for many major participants remain higher than they were twelve months prior, ongoing struggles in the upcoming days could indicate that the artificial intelligence trade has peaked.
