Vidya Balan Opens Up About Early Setbacks in South Cinema
Actor vidya balan has recently opened up about being branded a 'jinx' early in her career within South cinema, a label that led to her being replaced on projects before filming even began. As she prepares for her role in the upcoming release Jailer 2, she recalled how multiple early ventures, such as her planned Malayalam debut Chakram alongside Mohanlal, were halted midway.
Speaking about those initial hurdles, she noted that the experiences made her hesitant to take on South Indian films for a period, choosing instead to focus entirely on Hindi cinema. Over time, however, her perspective shifted regarding those early project misses.
Reflections on Timing and Returning to Regional Films
Having matured with time, vidya balan views those past obstacles simply as a matter of timing rather than anything else. Because she is a Tamilian, she expressed distinct excitement about joining the upcoming action entertainer, emphasizing that actors are always eager to secure strong and engaging roles across different Indian languages.
Working Alongside Rajinikanth in Jailer 2
The upcoming feature Jailer 2 serves as a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, the film features Rajinikanth reprising his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. For vidya balan, sharing the screen with the superstar is an honour, though shooting certain sequences came with unexpected physical reactions.
While discussing a specific scene that required her to smoke in front of Rajinikanth, she explained that her body reacted to the nicotine hit, causing her to tremble slightly while she tried to steady her hand. She noted that while she was conscious of blowing smoke in his direction and ensuring her composure, the physical response was simply due to her body not being accustomed to it.
Cast and Release Details
Alongside Rajinikanth and vidya balan, the ensemble cast for the upcoming project includes Mithun Chakraborty, S J Suryah, Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff. Fans anticipating the action entertainer can expect the film to hit theatres on October 15, 2026.
