Tesla Roadster Event Rescheduled After Weather Delay
Following a two-week postponement, the highly anticipated tesla roadster event is officially back on the calendar. Tesla updated its online countdown clock to indicate that the product reveal will take place at 7:55 p.m. CDT on October 15, moving from its original October 1 date.
The company noted that stormy weather at the demonstration site—located at SpaceX's Rocket Development and Testing facility in Waco, Texas—forced the initial delay. Reports indicate that adverse weather conditions would have disrupted the rumored flight or hovering capabilities intended for the demonstration.
Expectations and Potential Features
Ahead of the event, discussions have centered on what the vehicle might display. Previous reports suggested the showcase could feature a limited-edition variant of the electric car outfitted with cold-gas thrusters created alongside SpaceX, potentially showcasing airborne movement. CEO Elon Musk and other figures have teased that the upcoming showcase will offer plenty of excitement, though exact vehicle pricing has not been formally finalized by the automaker.
Reservations and Pricing Speculation
Interested buyers looking to secure a reservation are required to make an initial $5,000 deposit. This must be followed by a $45,000 wire transfer completed within 10 days of the first payment. While official final pricing has not been disclosed, estimates expect the vehicle to cost upwards of $250,000.
When the new reveal time was shared online, Musk posted that timing is everything, prompting various analysts and observers to speculate whether specific numbers mentioned—such as $75,990—might hint at a base model price or track performance metric.
Looking Back at the History
The original iteration launched back in 2008 and remained available until 2012 as the manufacturer's premier electric vehicle built using a Lotus Elise chassis. Tesla later unveiled the successor vehicle in 2017, accepting reservations with substantial deposits and initially projecting deliveries to begin by 2020, leaving early reservation holders waiting for years.
